Your usual home essentials like Borax tend to dehydrate the fleas when they swallow the suds, eventually killing them in the process. Hence, sprinkle the power sparingly on carpets and surroundings for best results.

But if you must have them, vacuum thoroughly, get rid of the vacuum bag immediately after use by putting it into an airtight plastic bag before discarding. Soak the carpets in laundry detergent, and let it set for a few hours before washing.
